January Featured Graphics: Dell Children’s Foundation

First of all, kudos to Dell Children’s Hospital Foundation and the talented creator and artist, Rowan Springs, for these fun and colorful wall murals installed at both Mueller and North Austin Dell Children’s Hospitals.

We are so fortunate to be included in such amazing projects! Just imagine the reactions of the kids coming into Dell Children’s Medical for appointments. We are so grateful they don’t have to wait in a cold and austere 1950’s waiting room! And waiting for their scheduled appointment, which to a kid is probably forever, now young children get to stand up and point, picturing themselves right in the middle of each adventure! Thinking of the fun times to come… picnics, Barton Springs, the healing properties of water! All on the walls of Dell Children’s.

Needless to say, if it can happen at Dell Children’s Hospitals, it can happen in your office. We are currently working with a number of clients on reinvigorating their spaces with wall graphics. With this installation of adhesive vinyl covered in a nice matte lamination, you are ensured an attractive wall covering that is resistant to fading from either sunshine or harsh chemical cleansers. Think of images such as Rowan Springs’ or your mission statement. Think of famous Austin sites you’d like on your walls, or your logo that was recently modified. We’ve done all this and more!

Can we work on your project? Please reach out to Josh.Meza@MillerIDS.com to get started!

January Artist of the Month: Don Collins

Born in Houston in time to launch the Great Depression, Collins was raised on his Irish Grandfathers small ranch in Parker County, Texas and spent an idyllic boyhood on the banks of the Trinity River. Art became almost an obsession at an early age.

After service in the United States Army Remount Service (Horse Cavalry) during the Korean Conflict, Collins graduated with a BFA from the University of Texas – Austin and immediately began a 56-year career as a free-lance commercial illustrator in Austin. This encompassed a wide variety of subjects, and in 1967 easel painting and art shows were added to his resume.

He exhibited for 34 years at the Annual Laguna Gloria Fiesta, a pioneer outdoor show. He also showed at the Waco Brazos Fest for a couple of decades as well. He showed in most of the larger cities around the Great Lone Star with subject matter ranging from sporting/wildlife, architecture, and historical subjects as well as working on pieces encompassing space exploration and portraiture. Collins departed central Texas in 2008 to Arlington to be near family and remained engaged in art activities, painting for pleasure and commissions. Don passed away with loved ones nearby on October 4th, 2024.

December Artist of the Month: March Mattingly

March Mattingly has been painting and drawing since she could pick up a pencil. As a child, March was fascinated by colors and patterns in nature. She spent a lot of time outdoors exploring nature and collecting piles of acorns, rocks, pretty leaves and anything that caught her eye. March’s artwork themes are mainly of nature: landscapes, flora and fauna. “We are a part of nature and it is a part of us.”

March graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA), with a concentration in Studio Art/Painting and Drawing. She works in a variety of media: oils or acrylics on canvas, charcoal, graphite, oil pastels and chalk pastels. She especially prefers using palette knives and brushes to apply thick, textured oil paint to canvas.

“My paintings and pastels are colorful and expressionistic, reflecting our perspective of and interaction with favorite places and subject matter; in the context of physical places, emotional states of mind, or a point in time that we cherish from our own, unique, individual journey that we all make on this earth. My paintings express self-awareness, personal and community accountability, the beauty of nature and the complex relationships between humans and the natural world.”

March works in several different series with different themes: tropical, sea life, cactus, abstracts, Nordic landscapes, hill country landscapes, animals and Austin night skyline cityscapes. Her tropical and sea life paintings have been inspired by travels to Hawaii, Cancun and Port Aransas, Texas. Her mountain and hill country paintings and pastels reflect her visual experience of living in Norway and subsequent visits there, as well as living in the Texas Hill Country.

“I have been going to Miller IDS since 1974. I first bought art supplies there and since, have used only Miller IDS for imaging and printing services. The reproduction is stellar, and I recommend Miller to all of my artist friends as ‘the only reproduction company that you will want to use, the best ever.’ Dana is incredible and produces gorgeous prints where it is hard to tell difference between the print and the original. She is also wonderful and pleasant to work with. Her skills with color and her fine attention to detail in the scanning and printing process are unmatched. I have never even considered using another print company. A number of my artist friends have told me that they started going to Miller IDS and were extremely happy with the results. I feel like Miller IDS is my print family and I feel fortunate to have them as a very important reproduction resource.”
