My work is an invitation to slow down. In a world that moves quickly, I find peace in pausing and observing the quiet beauty around us. Spending time in nature has always filled my cup. Moments in nature that are often overlooked but full of wonder. I find inspiration in everything from the truly awe inspiring and sublime Rocky Mountains or Grand Canyon down to the simplest walks in my neighborhood and plants in drainage ditches. There is beauty everywhere and it all deserves to be celebrated. Everyone has the ability to see and appreciate it, and I encourage people to go find that calm that emerges when we take a moment to breathe and simply look.
Each painting begins with an experience in nature that I truly enjoy. I repeatedly photograph the subject that I want to explore in different light conditions and at different times of day to understand the light which serves the theme or a subject I want to explore. Through acrylics and a mind open to learning and experimenting with different techniques, I have a plan that I map out, but never know quite where I will end up which is part of the fun. I have a desire to connect more deeply with the natural world. This practice helps me put the world in perspective, and I hope it offers that same sense of calm and appreciation to those who view my work.
Ultimately, my art is about capturing the gentle, tranquil moments that surround us every day—the ones we often miss unless we make space for them. I want my paintings to remind people to stop and smell the Texas mountain laurel, notice how beautifully the light glittering off a raindrop on a leaf can be, and appreciate the beauty that is all around us in this world.
